Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood was investigated for tax eluding and the possession of unlawful funds, and raids were carried out at his Mumbai home and workplace. Recently, in an interview with NDTV, the actor spoke out about the raids conducted by the IT team. According to the report, Sonu revealed that he provided all essential information to the tax officers during the raid. He also stated that the IT team was happy with his documents. He added that the tax officials agreed with him that he performed “excellent work” when it came to the details he preserved for the transactions he completed. The team said it was the easiest four days of raiding they’d ever had.
The Dabangg actor responded to all of the claims, which included being accused of dodging taxes on a sum of Rs 20 crore and being questioned about how Rs. 1.9 crore was used for relief work despite getting a donation of Rs 20 crore. “It’s quite surprising,” he remarked saying, “Whatever we collect is not just money donated by citizens. A chunk of that is also my remuneration from brand endorsements. I ask them to donate to a charity which can save lives.”
“Whatever documents, details they asked for, we gave. Whatever questions they asked, I answered. I did my part, they did theirs. Whatever questions they raised, we answered each and every one of them with documents. That’s my duty. We are still providing documents…it is part of the process.” Sood stated. “I have 54,000 unopened mails, thousands of messages on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter,” referring to the communications he receives on various platforms seeking assistance in the COVID-19 pandemic. He further said “It will not even take 18 hours to finish 18 crores. But I have to make sure every single penny is used in a proper way, for a genuine and needy person.” When Sonu was asked if he had received illegal foreign funding, he replied, “I can’t get a single dollar into my account.”
On his professional front, Sonu Sood will be next seen in Prithviraj, starring Akshay Kumar. The film is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and is set to hit the theatres on the 5th of November this year.
