The Indian cinema holds the record of the world’s largest producer of feature films by numbers. While we produce innumerous films each year, there’s a handful of genres that are available. Some of them that people love to watch are thrillers, crime stories. Most of them also happen to be high-grossing films of the year with multiple nominations and awards. Murder 2 is a psychological thriller and a sequel to the Murder film series. The movie was directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt. Released in 2011, the storyline revolves around a psycho eunuch who kills prostitutes as a message of God. It is one of the highest-grossing movies of 2011. Some reports suggest that it was based on the South Korean movie The Chaser. But the producer of the movie denied this stating that it is actually based on 2006 Nithari Killings.

 

Ek Villain: There is one in Every Love Story

Ek Villain is a thriller film directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Shobha Kapoor. The movie was released in 2014 and the star cast includes Riteish Deshmukh, Shraddha Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra and others. The story revolves around Guru, a quiet, tough and ruthless boy. After the love of his life, his pregnant spouse (portrayed by Shraddha), gets murdered by a serial killer (played by Riteish), he goes all out in pursuit of revenge. The movie received positive remarks from the audience. Ritesh Deshmukh and Siddharth Malhotra were praised for their commendable performances.

 

Psycho Raman

Also known as Raghav Raman 2.0 is an Indian neo-noir psychological thriller that was released in 2016. The film is directed and produced by none other than Anurag Kashyap. It stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vicky Kaushal and Sobhita Dhulipala. The movie is based on the life of real-life serial killer Raman Raghav. He killed several homeless people in Mumbai during the 1960s. He used Bludgeon and killed his victims which generated widespread panic. After getting caught, he confessed to 41 murders. In the movie, Kashyap wanted to portray the period of the 1960s. But since his movie Bombay Velvet failed, he realized it was difficult to arrange the required finances. So, he wrote the movie in contemporary times. The movie shows Ramanna, a maniac murderer who finds a soulmate in Raghavan, a policeman. While Ramanna kills homeless people, Raghavan inspects those cases. The movie is said to be gripping and visceral. So, it received a positive response from the audience.

 

The Stoneman Murders

The Stoneman Murders is a neo-noir crime thriller that was released in 2009. The movie is based on real-life Stoneman killings during the 1980s in Mumbai. It is directed by Manish Gupta and the cast includes Kay Kay Menon, Arbaaz Khan, and others. In the real story goes, a mystery killer used to kill footpath dwellers by throwing stones at them. The movie follows the same storyline, where the director tries to reconstruct the real events. The gripping story and gout performance make it one of the must-watch movies based on serial killers.

 

Samay

Samay is a 2003 thriller film directed by Robby Grewal. It was inspired by the Hollywood film Se7en that starred Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. It stars Sushmita Sen, Jackie Shroff, Dinesh Lamba, and others. The storyline is based on how ACP Malvika Chouhan battles time and nabs a serial killer. The movie has been received well by the audience. It also won a National Award in 2004 for Best Editing.

 

Sangharsh

Sangharsh is a psychological action horror film directed by Tanuja Chandra. The movie was released in 1999 that cast Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta and Ashutosh Rana in the leading roles. The movie’s storyline revolves around a serial child killer who has escaped police custody. Here, Akshay Kumar plays the role of a criminal and Priety Zinta of a CBI officer. Both of them have done an impressive job as actors. According to the audience, the movie was a value for money.

 

Red Rose

Red Rose is a psychological thriller film that was released in the year of 1980. This movie was directed by Bharathiraja which stars Rajesh Khanna and Poonam Dhillon. The story is based on the life of a successful businessman with a dark character who seduces young girls and kills them. The movie did very well at the box office at that time. Rajesh Khanna was praised by many for his portrayal of a negative character.
