A controversy emerged as soon as Kareena Kapoor was reported to hike her fees to Rs. 12Cr for her role in Sita. The actor opened up about the controversy surrounding her. She said it isn’t about being demanding but asking to respect. The film Sita is a reimagination of The Great Ramayana from Goddess Sita’s perspective.
While Kareena has never spoken about the unproven rumors that she sought for Rs.12 crores to feature in the epic film, she did speak out for the first time about equal pay in the industry in the wake of the scandal. Kapoor remarked in an interview that she makes it plain how much she should be paid for projects, comparing it to respecting. She told The Guardian, “Just a few years ago, no one would talk about a man or woman actually getting equal pay in a movie. Now there are a lot of us being very vocal about it, I make it quite clear what I want and I think that respect should be given.”
Few of Kareena’s colleagues like Taapsee Pannu supported the actress from the trolls who accused her of greed. She told Bollywood Bubble, “You’ll always read about this problem of hiked salaries with women. But why not? She is one of the biggest female superstars we have in the country. If she commands a certain salary for her time, it’s her job. Do you think any other mythological characters that are played by men, do you think they do it for free? I don’t think so.”
It is rumored that Kareena Kapoor has doubled her fee to Rs. 12 crores for the Sita film. Kareena will next be seen in Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha.
