Shenpenn Khymsar, a Darjeeling native, to make his Bollywood debut with film ‘Shaadisthan’

Shenpenn Khymsar, who wrote and directed the feature film ‘Broken Wings,’ which completed filming recently and will be released later this year. Shenpenn Khymsar, a director, poet, actor, writer, musician, and lyricist, will make his mainstream debut as an actor in the Disney+Hotstar exclusive ‘Shaadisthan‘, alongside Kirti Kulhari, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Apurv Dogra, Medha Shankar, Kay Kay Menon, and Ajay Jayanthi.

EastMojo interviewed the Broken Wings director for a few questions regarding his part in the movie. “My character Jigme is a supporting player, and I am one of the band members, the guitarist.” His character, he explains, is the newest member of the group and is more concerned with vlogging and traveling the world. “This role might have been written for someone else,” he continued, “But it somehow landed on me and the director and producers liked it.”

Shenpenn plays the character of a musician and he is as well as a musician in real life. “I really played the guitar in the movie,” he said whenever asked about it. “Whenever questioned about his time on camera, he replies how everyone came forward and worked together as a team. Everything was done by all of us. Even when I’m not shooting, I was helping the direction or camera team, for instance,” he explained. “I think it’s a little different than most movies,” the actor replied when asked what will attract viewers to this film.

Shenpenn stated that he is already working on his next film as a director, which will be a gangster film, while questioned about his future plans. The film will also be shot in Sikkim, but it is based on true events that took place in Darjeeling. “The movie is based on the Gorkhaland agitation,” he continued. “So, all through that time, the narrative is about henchmen, kidnappers, and murderers. The film’s working title is ‘Paatley Baas,’ which translates to “thin bamboos.” It’s actually the name of a Darjeeling village “Sabse Khoonkhar Gaon, he says. Shenpenn also stated that he will be acting in his new film “Paatley Baas” as well as a few other Bollywood films that he is currently working on.
